Android 8.0 Oreo, the official eighth major version of Android is released now. According to the device release date hierarchy, Android Oreo update will reach Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X devices first. How to install Android Oreo 8.0

You can download the latest available system images here. Once you download, please follow the below steps from Google to ensure successful installation of Android Oreo 8.0.

Download and Install stable Android 8.0 Oreo G950FXXU1CRAP and G955FXXU1CRAP build. OTA update.zip downloads available. Step 1: Unzip the downloaded system image zip to a safe directory.

Step 2: Connect your device to computer using an USB cable.

Step 3: Start the device in fastboot mode. If you don’t know how to enter fastboot mode, follow the available ways below:

a.Using ADB tool: execute the following command when the device is connected to PC

adb reboot bootloader

b. Using key combination on smartphone directly: Turn off the device and use the key combination mentioned in official Android website after starting the device again.

Step 4: If necessary, you can unlock the bootloader by following below steps:

a. If you are using a device released in 2015 or later, use the following command to unlock the bootloader of device:

fastboot flashing unlock

b. If you are running an older device, use below command to unlock bootloader:

The device(Android smartphone) displays an confirmation screen(It erases all the data on connected device).

Step 5: Open a terminal and navigate to previously unzipped system image folder.

Step 6: Execute flash-all script. It installs all the required scripts and operating system on the connected smartphone.

Step 7: Once the script execution completes, lock the bootloader again for security purpose. Follow the below steps to do it:

a. Start the device in fastboot mode(as done in Step 3).

b. Execute following commands:

fastboot flashing lock (for new devices)

fastboot oem lock (for devices before 2015)

Locking bootloader may erase data on some devices. Further, if you wish to flash a package again, you have to unlock the bootloader again.
